This position is located on a Forest Service unit where the incumbent performs professional work in the field of forest ecology.
The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

Implement ecological programs to maintain a viable and dynamic forest system on a National Forest. Monitors and evaluates the effects of management decisions on forest land and surrounding communities. Analyzes and determines impact of unit programs on compliance with Federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations. Coordinates research projects with cooperators, including other Federal and state agencies and academia to develop further understandings of the processes of the forest ecosystem.
Provides input for short and long-term planning for budgetary and compliance requirements. Analyzes ecosystem components and processes within forested areas and neighboring forest and adjacent communities to determine the effects of management activities. Develops mitigating solutions to actions resulting from adverse effect on the forest system/lands.
Develops a long-term monitoring system to collect baseline data to quantitatively evaluate the processes within the system. Evaluates ecological conditions in remnant late successional forests to meet the desired objectives of the management plan. Works with the forest fire or wildland fire specialist to determine the role of fire dependent regimes and develops mitigation for the processes that may not be desired.
Assists in or personally conducts portions of ecological studies of the vegetation, soil, and environmental characteristics of the Zone or forest from which ecological classifications are produced, which provides basic understanding of ecosystems as well as land management and planning information.

Qualifications: You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education . Any education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Degree : biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
In addition to the Basic Requirements above, the following additional experience are required at the appropriate grade level . Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Participated in long-term vegetation monitoring or vegetation inventory to collect baseline data to quantitatively evaluate the processes within the system; assisted in the evaluation of ecological conditions in rangelands and/or forested areas to meet the desired objectives of the management plan; incorporated data into the Geographic Information System or similar technology and reviewed proposed projects to determine impacts on rangeland and forest lands and suggested mitigation actions to minimize ecological impacts.

Substitution of Education for
Experience: GS-11: Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university by the U.S.Department of Education and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
